We’ve developed this website to help guide, educate, and provide ideas and suggestions for people who want or need to develop healthy eating habits. In our case, one of us needed to do exactly that!!!
Our wake up call to make some initial changes came in January 2009, but our mandate to change came in April 2009 when one of us had a heart attack. Largely because of the healthy eating changes we had incorporated since January 2009, Lary was very fortunate to survive his five bypass open heart surgery. See the “About Us” tab for more detail.
We paid close attention to the post-surgery directive from his talented team of doctors at the Michigan Heart & Vascular Institute (MHVI) of St. Joseph Mercy Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They told us we immediately needed to learn how to make heart healthy food choices all the time. We had to make eating healthy fit into our lives every single day.
So…we decided to embrace the changes we needed to make. We turned our situation into a fun adventure!
Now we are hoping to “pay it forward” and we want to share what we’ve learned and perhaps make your journey, or maybe the journey of someone you know, a little easier and enjoyable. We hope you’ll be inspired to start your own adventure that will be life-changing, or perhaps it may even be life-saving!
We’ve learned that eating healthy can be a really fun road to travel with lots of exciting stops and rewards along the way. Come and share a little of our adventure.
We’ve spent many hours reading heart healthy cookbooks and magazines, and searching the internet for information to help us develop healthy eating guidelines that worked for us.
We also spent many hours developing, modifying, and experimenting with recipes. To be honest though, since we are both “foodies” - this was not a terribly difficult task! And we have some yummy heart healthy recipes we’d like to share.
We also want to share some of the more “technical stuff” about good nutrition that we learned along the way. We found that today’s food pyramid is a bit more comprehensive than what either of us remembers from our grade school health classes!
We are not health professionals. We’re just two people who have a story we want to share about the journey that has led us to become more aware of how to make healthy food choices. Please consult your physician before making any changes to your lifestyle.
